Canine Airport Therapy Squad

Description:

Volunteers provide their time, and their family pets, in this program. All 140+ animals are registered with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs or Pet Partners and are trained, certified and insured as a therapy animal. All CATS volunteer teams work a minimum of 10 hours per quarter. While the dates of visits are flexible, CATS and their handlers average three visits per month.

Be Positive: Surprise, delight and comfort passengers through positive interactions with therapy animals.

Be a Spokesperson: Promote DEN and the CATS program.

Inform and Assist: Inform and assist passengers with airport-related questions and wayfinding.

Hand out Trading Cards: We’ll provide you with fun trading cards you can hand out to passengers featuring your pet!

Requirements:

All CATS volunteer teams work a minimum of 10 hours per quarter.

Experience with a recognized animal therapy organization: All dogs should have the equivalent of one year experience with an approved therapy program prior to volunteering at DEN. Dogs with less than one year experience will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. To register with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, call (307) 432-0272 or email [email protected]. To register with Pet Partners, visit: petpartners.org

Pets must be privately owned and at least 2 years old: All canine CATS volunteers must be registered with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs or Pet Partners, an international organization that registers, insures and supports members who are involved in similar volunteer activities.

Prospective CATS handlers will participate in DEN customer service training and field evaluations: This will ensure that this environment will be a good fit for both volunteer and dog. Additionally, handlers will go through Airport Security background checks, fingerprinting and security testing prior to receiving an Airport ID badge.

Volunteer Benefits:

Volunteers have the opportunity to connect with thousands of people from all over the world and help them navigate the airport. The impact of your volunteer work will be seen daily through the smiles of our passengers.

  • Free airport parking: Volunteers receive free parking at DEN that can be used for volunteer shifts or personal travel.
  • Concessions discounts: Shop, dine, and relax at DEN between shifts with airport discounts.
  • Access to the wellness facility located at DEN: The employee wellness center is available to our volunteers.
  • Flexible Schedule: We offer flexible volunteer schedules with shifts available on weekdays and weekends between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
